Event Details

Dear postdoctoral fellows,

The Johns Hopkins Libraries have been asked by Provost Kumar to discuss publishing values and changes in the publishing ecosystem. We know these topics are important to our postdoc and graduate student communities, so we’re writing to invite you to The Scholarly Publishing Ecosystem: Focus Group for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows. We have selected two dates for you to choose from: Tuesday, January 12th from 4:00pm – 5:00pm and Friday, January 29th from 3:00pm – 4:00pm.

Please click here to sign up for a Focus Group: https://welch.jhmi.libcal.com/calendar/special-sessions

In these sessions, we will present some of the information we have been speaking with Hopkins faculty about, including:

  • Commercial publisher profits and their influence on researchers
  • Negotiating principles libraries are exploring to support author rights and Open Access to research
  • Other publishing values

Then, we would like to hear your thoughts and concerns about the scholarly communication ecosystem, including how a push for Open Access could impact you and how publishing is situated within assessment and hiring decisions.

If you have any questions, please contact Caitlin Carter (ccarte63@jhmi.edu).
